Apple Peel Chips

Dehydrating fruits can be a fun and easy recipe to make with children. It only requires a few ingredients but be sure to leave plenty of time to dry the peels. Either a dehydrator or a low temperature oven can be used to make this crispy apple snack.

  • 4 apples
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger


1. Preheat oven to 170°F or the lowest temperature possible. Prepare a large baking sheet lined with parchment paper. 

2. Peel the apples from stem to base. Once all of the apples are peeled, stack the peels and cut them in half lengthwise. Alternatively, an apple peeler tool can also be used. This will create long strands of apple peel. Cut these strands down to 3-4” pieces.

3. Place the apple peels onto a large baking sheet. Add the cinnamon and ginger. Mix to coat evenly. Spread the peels out into a single layer on the baking sheet.

4. Bake for 1½ - 2½ hours until the apple peels are crunchy and have started to curl, mixing occasionally. Cooking times will vary depending on thickness of the peels.
