I am going to explain what chai tea is, why chai is good for you, and how you can take your chai love affair even further.
The word "chai" actually means tea in many languages. The term "masala" refers to any blend of spices. That is why no two chai tea recipes are ever the same. Despite the origins, in the United States and Israel chai tea usually refers to a black tea made with a blend of spices consisting of cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, black pepper, and cloves.
Chai is delicious, but it is also full of health benefits. The main reason it is commonly eaten after meals in India is because it aids in digestion. Chai tea has also been found to enhance the immune system, fight inflammation, and offer antioxidant benefits from the tea and spices.
The best part of making your own chai blend is that you will know what is in it. You can make it to suit your taste and keep the sugar down. Separate out some of the spices when making your concentrate and give some of these chai-flavored recipes a try.
