Hello everybody! We now find ourselves in the middle of winter. We may (or may not) be getting a touch of cabin fever. And with cabin fever comes a strong desire to bake. To make. To cook. To read. To cozy up. To watch a warm fire.
It all starts off as an innocent idea; a cup of hot cocoa and a book.
Hmmm .... I wonder where those hot cocoa packets are. Wait! Maybe I should make it from scratch. Yeah, that'd be good. I've been waiting for the right excuse ...
One hour later in a kitchen not so far away.
Wow. That's some good cake. All of it's warm, gooey, chocolaty goodness. This is wonderful. How did I even get to a cake? Oh, that's right I was making a cup of hot cocoa! Where did the time fly? I guess my book will have to wait. Hmmmm maybe I'll make some bagels or soft pretzels ..... or....
Is it just me? Am I the only one who gets the munchies when the snow starts falling? Maybe I am, but either way at least you can enjoy my kitchen escapades and the random stories it creates. :)
Either way the cake I DID make was pretty good. Like wayyyyy to easy to be this good. One HUGE factor to make this a winning cake however is to NOT skimp on the boxed cake mix. I went for the cheapest, and that probably wasn't the best idea (yeah, you could see it coming) as the flavor of the boxed cake is what you taste. However, the whole melted chocolate poured over the mixed up batter in the pyrex works really well. And I mean really well. Need a cake in a pinch and don't have time to frost it? Make this cake and you'll have a winner.
When I used the recommended Elite chocolate I did notice that not all of the chocolate melted down. Not sure if that was just my chocolate or what. But that didn't come in the way of making a great cake.
I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of comments this particular recipe got on instagram. Yay for social media! :) It's really great to have the interaction with you, my readers and those who follow me on instagram. Keep in touch - I love hearing from you guys!
