A little different from the traditional Hanukkah dessert, these bananas are definitely a treat for the adults. Don't be afraid of flaming the rum. Be smart and careful and the results will be delicious.
Venetian Fried Custard – Crema Fritta
December 22nd 2011By Alessandra Rovati
This dessert has been popular in Venice since the days of old. Jews have lived in Venice since for so many centuries that nowadays it’s often hard to tell which Venetian recipes have Jewish origins, and viceversa. However, this fried custard bears a resemblance to a Spanish dessert, and some think that it must have been introduced by the Spanish Jews. All Venetians love “Crema fritta”! It’s very popular during the famous Carnival, and as a fried dessert it’s perfect for Hanukkah. It can be served hot or cold.

Sufganiot (Jelly Doughnuts)
March 7th 2011By Jamie Geller
Uber-easy jelly-filled sufganiot (doughnuts) are ideal for Chanukah or anytime you get a craving. My sister-in-law Carly and I attempted this recipe one Chanukah night when the whole family came over for candle-lighting. Everyone got involved. Some of us were on deep-fry duty, some of us powdered and the rest "quality control" tasted. We all had a blast. There was flour and confectioners' sugar everywhere.

Goat Cheese and Scallion Baked Donuts

I love food that fakes you out, when my husband came home and I asked him to taste one of these donuts with dinner, he said, isn't that dessert? Once he got over the confusion, he tasted it and loved it, although he suggested it would be better for a brunch and I agree, it has a bagel with cream cheese flavor, but a different texture and much more fun for a party.

Créme Anglaise and Basil Filled Doughnuts
Cinnamon Sugar Churros
December 9th 2012By Jamie Geller
Originally a Portuguese dessert, some say the recipe originated during the Age of Exploration, when sailors brought the concept back from the Orient. Since the Chinese were not allowed to share recipes (punishable by death), the Portuguese improvised, and churros as we know them were born.
