I love homey fruit desserts. Nothing says comfort like the smell of a fruit crisp baking in the oven. This dessert can be made for Shabbat and can be served cold or warmed for Shabbat lunch.

The lemon zest and lemon juice adds brightness to the crisp and sets it apart from the standard apple crisps. This is seriously the best apple crisp ever. Serve it warm with vanilla ice cream. Lemon zest refers to the outer peel of the lemon, not including the white part which is very bitter.
