Sweet and Sour Lentils

perfect 1 pot side dish that will also make your vegetarians happy!


  • Prep Time : 10 minutes min
  • Cook Time : 1 hour, 30 min
  • Ready Time : 1 hour, 40 min

  • 1/2 cup tamari soy sauce
  • 1 large bay leaf
  • 3 tsp. onion powder
  • 3/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 3/4 cup honey
  • 1/2 Cup red wine vinegar
  • 1 tsp. powdered ginger
  • 4 cups Water
  • 3 cups lentils rinsed (1lb bag)



1 mix together first 8 ingredients in 4 quart pot
2 add water, mix together, add lentils
3 bring to a boil, then cover and lower heat and simmer for an hour and a half
4 turn off heat, leave pot covered for 15 minutes
5 uncover, remove bay leaf, stir gently
6 serve hot or cold

    These are absolutely delicious. I made these last week for a church picnic and my friends raved about them. I actually caught one of them running off with the bowl. She and her husband are Vegan so she was happy to have something to eat with all of the meat heavy dishes. I love the sweet and sour flavor. My mouth was starting to water while they were cooking. Thank you for sharing the recipe.
