  • Prep Time : 1 hour 15 minutes min
  • Cook Time : 35-45 minutes min
  • Ready Time : 36 min

Servings

  • 240 ml room temp water
  • 100 ml corn oil
  • 2 eggs +1 egg
  • 1/4 c sugar
  • 2 tblsp active dry yeast

Directions

Preparation

1 in a large bowl, mix 240ml water with 2 tblsp yeast and 1/4 c sugar, whisk and let stand a few minutes until it starts to froth
2 add oil and 2 eggs, whisk well.
3 add flour and salt, with the flour start with 2 cups and start mixing with a wooden spoom, then add 3/4 c flour at a time until you get a sticky dough that you can press against with your finger but it dosent attach itself to you.
4 kneed by hand a few minutes, place in a oiled bowl (i spritz pam) and cover with plastic wrap, let rise until doubled in size (1 hour) you can let it rise in the sunshine or in a 100 degree oven.
5 once double give it a good punch (one will do) in the middle and divide into braiding pieces. you can make 2 small loaves or one large loave, and search youtube for a "how to braid 6 stands" it isnt hard at all and it come out bautiful!
6 turn oven on to 500 degrees farenheight (250 clecius) and cover challah with the plastic wrap until oven gets to the 500 dgrees, once the oven is super hot use the remaing egg as an egg wash (beat up the egg with a tab of water) and brush teh challah completley with the egg wash
7 sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired and place in oven, imediatly reduce heat to 375 f (180c) and let bake for 35 min, check to see if it is done by 2 factors- 1 a golden brown crust, 2 knock on the botom of teh challah and it should sound hollow.
