Strawberry Jalapeño BBQ Chicken Wings

Instead of just marinating your chicken wings in plain barbecue sauce, jazz it up by adding chopped jalapeno and strawberries for a sweet and spicy kick. I use Gold's Barbecue Sauce for the perfect semi-homemade marinade.

  • Prep Time : 1 hour, 20 min
  • Cook Time : 45 min
  • Ready Time : 2 hour, 5 min

  • 1 pound chicken wings
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1/2 cup Gold's BBQ Sauce
  • 1/2 cup strawberries, chopped
  • 2 jalapeños, halved, seeded, and coarsely chopped
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons honey

Heat vegetable oil in a small pot over medium heat. Add the onions and saute for 5 minutes, until soft.

Add ketchup, strawberries, jalapeños, vinegar, honey and Gold’s barbecue sauce.

Bring the mixture to a boil then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 10-15 minutes, until thick.

Marinade the chicken wings in the Strawberry Jalapeño BBQ Sauce for 1 hour in the fridge.

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Place the marinated chicken wings on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or foil.

Bake the wings for 30 minutes then flip and cook for another 10 minutes. Flip the wings back over one more time, set the oven to broil and cook the chicken for 5 minutes, to give the chicken a dark and crunchy topping.

  1. If I can get myself to save some strawberries I will make this. Love fruit-driven BBQ sauces. Never made one with strawberries so I find this intriguing.

  2. I assume that you add the honey to the marinade? You list it in the ingredient, but don’t mention it in the instructions.

    • Thanks for pointing out the error. I’ve updated it in the recipe. Yes, you add the honey to the marinade.

  3. This sounds great, and I love that you bake your wings instead of frying them.

Since I don’t make chicken wings but do a lot of baking and grilling with chicken beasts, I’m going to use this on my chicken breast next Shabbat.. It should be a nice chsnge … It should keep it moist since there is no skin
