MSG Free Chicken Broth

The advantage of making your own broth is that it allows you to control the sodium level and not have to worry about additional artificial flavors. You can use chicken thighs, drumsticks, backs, or necks. If you decide to opt for turkey broth, you can use turkey necks or wings. In my humble opinion, homemade broth tastes a lot better than the store bought canned or container broths stocked on shelves at your local supermarket. Its easy to make and it doesn't involve much preparations. This broth can be used in soups, stews, casseroles, or grains. This broth can be made a head of time and frozen for later use.

Times

  • Prep Time : 5 minues min
  • Cook Time : 1 hour min
  • Ready Time : 6 min

Servings

Ingredients

  • 3 pounds chicken wings,necks,thighs, or drumsticks
  • 2 large onions quartered
  • 2 large carrots quartered
  • 3 medium celery stalks quartered
  • 1/2 cup green parts of a leek chopped
  • 1 Bay Leaf
  • 3 fresh sprigs of thyme
  • 1 fresh sprig of rosemary
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper corn

Directions

Add all ingredients to a large pot. Fill with water till ingredients are completely covered. Cook on high flame and bring to a boil. Lower the flame to medium and let it simmer for about an hour. Skim off the fat occasionally. Discard ingredients and set aside for later use. If you don’t plan on using the broth immediately, allow it to come to a complete cool and transfer to a concealed container. It can be refrigerated up to 3 days for frozen up to a couple of months.

Yields about 2 quarts

I am an olah chaddasha (immigrant) from New York. I am currentlyliving in the Mercaz (central) area of Israel. I’ve been married for 2 and a halfyears. I discovered my passion for cooking when I was 14. Mypassion grew as I gradually mastered various cooking techniques viatrial and error. I worked as a part time sous chef at a kosherChinese restaurant back in 2003. The culinary journey has beenadventurous for me. Up until now, I’ve been relying oncookbooks for guidance. I acquired most of my skills andinspiration from my grandmother. Whenever I would come to visit her, she would provide me with recipes and even allow me to assist herwith her cooking. As I became more confident with my cookingabilities, I modified some recipes and supplemented my owningredients. My hubby inspired me to create my own cookingblog. My goal is to drive media traffic and have my talents andpassions recognized. I one day hope to parlay my talents into acareer.

The theme of my blog is to promote Kosher healthy eating. With all thedietary restrictions that we are obligated to adhere to, we wouldthink that we live better than the rest of the world. Sadly, that’sno longer the case. From kugels heavily saturated in oil to the processedfoods loaded with chemicals,MSG,and sodium, we may want to secondguess our lifestyle. Dieting has its challenges and most of thesehealth promoting fads are ineffective. As Jews, we collectively facethe threat of medical problems that attributes to obesity and other eating disorders. A lot of people complain about healthy food beingtasteless ,monotonous, and unappetizing leaving them more hungry than ever. To me,eating healthy is not only about limiting your food consumption to soyand raw vegetables. Its mostly about portion control and gettingenough exercise. My objective is to come up with exciting but healthieralternatives without compromising on the flavors by using innovationand creativity.
I am always looking for recipe suggestions .Your feedback is alwayswelcome and appreciated! You can learn more about my recipes by clicking on this link : http://challahmaidel.wordpress.com/
