Homemade Healthy Onion Soup Mix

Now you can make your own onion soup mix so you don't have to use the MSG that comes in so many of them. It looks like a lot of ingredients, but once you make a batch it can be stored in your cupboard like any other spice.

Times

  • Ready Time : 0 min

Servings

3 heaping tablespoons

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon celery seed
  • 2 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons minced onion
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dried parsley
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Directions

Combine all ingredients and store in an airtight container until ready to use.  Should last up to a year.

    Jessica,
You can used dried minced onion or or onion flakes that can be found in the spice aisle of the grocery store.

I am NOT sure what to do NOW that I made the mix. Do I use it AS soup? Like add water? or what? Um, really want to know cause I made the mix. I don’t know HOW MUCH mix to water, or to other liquid or to what to do with it. I am lost. Please be very informative if you can be, I just have this mix sitting around now and don’t know how to use it. Thanks Much, Shalom

Do you have a homemade consomme recipe?

Is the sugar an essential ingredient? Would rather not use it if possible.
