Garlic and Onion-free Cholent

I'm allergic to garlic and onions, so I've developed this tasty cholent recipe so I can enjoy Shabbos afternoon while staying healthy. I usually wake up early and throw this in the crockpot before going to work in the morning, turning it to warm before Shabbos starts.

  • Prep Time : 20 minutes min
  • Cook Time : 8 hours min
  • Ready Time : 28 min

  • 1 1/2 - 2 pounds beef stew meat
  • 4-5 peeled & quartered medium potatoes
  • 1/4 cup celery
  • 1/4 cup carrots, peeled
  • 1 can rinsed black beans
  • 1 can rinsed red kidney beans
  • 1 cup pearled barley
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • Water to cover
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt

1. Put crockpot liner in the pot to ensure an easier cleanup
2. Add potatoes and beef first, add the rest of the ingredients in order as they are listed
3. Add enough water to cover and set on low, cook for 8-10 hours
4. Switch to warm before Shabbos comes in
