Double Rainbow Cake

In addition to decorating the outside of your cake like a rainbow you can actually bake up a colorful rainbow cake on the inside. It’ll be a super colorful surprise when you cut it open.

Ingredients

  • Raw prepared yellow or white cake batter for 1 (9-inch) round cake
  • Food coloring to match the colors of your rainbow

Preparation

1 Divide the raw batter into 6 bowls (if doing the full rainbow). Put slightly more batter in the first bowl and a little less in each subsequent bowl.
2 Mix a single color of food coloring into each bowl until thoroughly combined and desired color is achieved. Use a small amount for pastel colors, and more for bold, vibrant colors.
3 Take the first color (red if you are doing the colors of the rainbow) and spoon into the very middle of a well-greased 9-inch round cake pan. Tilt it slightly to spread. Don’t worry, the batter does not have to spread to the edges, it will eventually.
4 Take your next color and carefully pour it directly into the middle of the first color. Once in you can again tip a bit to spread it out some, but do not stir.
5 repeat with remaining colors and bake according to package directions.
