Chocolate Chili

Servings

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1-1/2 pound ground bee
  • 1 can kidney beans (16-ounce)
  • 1 can tomato puree (16-ounce)
  • 1 can tomato paste (6-ounce)
  • 1/2 cup canned green chilies, whole
  • 1/2 cup :water
  • 2 ounces chocolate, :bittersweet
  • 2 tablespoons :red chili powder hot-mild -- ground
  • 1 teaspoon :cumin
  • 1 beef :bouillon cube

Directions

  1. Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic and cook until the onion is translucent. Add the meat to the skillet.
  2. Break up any lumps with a fork and cook, stirring occasionally, until the meat is evenly browned. Stir in the kidney beans, tomato puree, tomato paste, green chile, water, 1 ounce of the chocolate, ground chili, cumin and beef cube. Mix well.
  3. Bring to a boil, then lower heat and simmer, uncovered, for 1/2 hour. Stir occasionally. Stir in the remaining chocolate and continue cooking until it is thoroughly blended.
  4. Taste and adjust seasonings.
