- Ready Time : 2 hour, 30 min
Servings
Ingredients
- 1 cup Water
- 2 Eggs
- 2 tbsp. oil
- 2 Tbsp. honey
- 11/2 tsp. salt
- 31/2 cup bread flour
- 11/2 tsp. yeast
Directions
Preparation
1 Put all ingredients in bread machine in the order listed.
2 Choose dough setting, when it is done, roll out dough into three ropes, and braid to make a traditional challah.
3 Let rise 60 minutes. Preheat oven to 350.
4 Brush challahs with egg wash and bake 30 minutes.
Notes: Check the machine during the process to make sure it does not need more flour. Touch it and if it is too sticky, add more flour. If you don’t have a bread machine, it works great in a food processor or stand mixer too. Begin by heating the water to about 100 degrees. Add to it a tsp. of sugar and the year and allow to proof 5 minutes. At that point you can add everything else to the machine. Each rise will take about 60-90 minutes in a warm environment. In the summer I use my garage, in the winter, I warm up my oven to about 100, then turn it off. While the dough is rising, you should have it covered with a tea towel.
