Ingredients

Baseball Cupcakes

  • yellow or white cupcakes, frozen for 45 minutes
  • white frosting
  • red licorice wheels or red shoestring licorice

Basketball Cupcakes

  • chocolate cupcakes, frozen for 45 minutes
  • Orange frosting
  • black Licorice wheels or black Shoestring Licorice

Preparation

Baseball Cupcakes

1 Using an offset spatula, crumb coat your cupcakes with white frosting.
2 Chill in the fridge for at least one hour or overnight.
3 Frost your crumb-coated cupcakes with a thick coat of white frosting. Use an offset spatula to smooth it and make sure everything is covered.
4 Unravel licorice wheels and use to mimic the pattern of a baseball. Cut to size and drape two semicircles on either side of the cupcakes. Cut short red hash marks for stitching.

Basketball Cupcakes

1 Using an offset spatula, crumb coat your cupcakes with orange frosting.
2 Chill in the fridge for at least one hour or overnight.
3 Frost your crumb-coated cupcakes with a thick coat of orange frosting. Use an offset spatula to smooth it and make sure everything is covered.
4 Unravel licorice wheels and use to mimic the pattern of a basketball. Cut to size and place one across the cupcake and a 2nd across the cupcake the opposite way to form a “t”. Drape two semicircles on either side.

DRESS IT UP You can gently press a meat mallet into the frosting so the texture resembles the dimpled look of a basketball.
