Baked Horseradish Gefilte Fish

Everyone likes horseradish with their gefilte fish, why not make it easy an put it in there from the start. In this recipe I thaw the gefilte fish to mix in horseradish and carrots and then refreeze so that it retains its shape while baking, you can skip this step if you don't mind a flatter or more loaf like fish. I also coated the outside with horseradish which makes it prettier and adds an even bigger flavor impact.

  • Prep Time : 20 min
  • Cook Time : 2 hour
  • Chill Time : 2 hour
  • Ready Time : 4 hour, 20 min

  • 1 frozen loaf of gefilte fish
  • 3 medium carrots, diced medium
  • 1 cup Gold's white horseradish
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 cup chopped parsley

Thaw the fish in the paper, overnight in the refrigerator.  Remove fish into a large bowl (reserving paper for later).  Add diced carrot and 1/4 cup horseradish to the fish and mix well with a fork.  Put fish back into the paper and roll it up and put back in the freezer for at least 2 hours.

Preheat the oven to 350.

Pour the olive oil into the bottom of a 9×5 inch loaf pan.  Add the rest of the horseradish and parsley.  Roll the frozen load in the mixture to coat and set it in the pan.  Sprinkle with more parsley if desired.  Bake covered for 1 1/2 hours, uncover and bake another 30 minutes until the top is browned.

Cool and place in a resealable container in refrigerator for at least 4 hours. serve cold.  sliced and topped with more gefilte if desired.

  1. This looks good, especially because you don’t actually have to make the gefilte fish (I did that once). Can’t have fish in my house when my daughter’s around though!

  2. Great recipes
