Baked Apple Sauce

This is an alternative way to make apple sauce without any added sugar or butter. Gala apples are best due to their higher sugar content.


  • Prep Time : 5 min
  • Cook Time : 25 min
  • Ready Time : 30 min


6 to 8 Servings


  • 6 gala apples, peeled and cored
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup water


  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.
  2. Grate apples on medium side of box grater.
  3. Mix with cinnamon and nutmeg. Place with water in a 9 x 13 baking pan.
  4. Bake at 325 degrees F for 20 minutes stirring halfway.
  5. Serve warm cold or at room temperature, as desired.

    It would be good to know what size pan to use and whether the apples turn into sauce or remain in their shredded state. Thanks!

    • oops a 9 x 13 pan will edit/add to the recipe now – and they will stay shredded – you can see the texture in the picture. Enjoy!
