Spicy Hot Cocoa with Kahlua

Ingredients

  • 4 cups Whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ to 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 4 cinnamon sticks for garnish
  • Kahlua or Chocolate Liqueur (optional)

Directions

  1. In a large heavy bottomed saucepan, bring milk, cocoa powder, vanilla, cinnamon and cayenne to a simmer over medium low heat.
  2. Simmer for 5 minutes until thoroughly warmed through.
  3. Add chocolate chips and whisk vigorously until smooth.
  4. Remove from heat and divide between four glasses.
  5. Serve with cinnamon sticks in each glass to be used as a stir stick. Add a splash of Kahlua or chocolate liqueur to each serving, if desired.

    Sorry to be a kvetch, but if Kahlua is in the title, shouldn’t it be included in the recipe?

    Wow. OK. Made it.
    You may want to cut down on the cayenne just a bit. I used the lesser of the two suggested amounts and it packed a WALLOP!
