Shawarma Chicken and Chummus Pitas with French Fries
Jamie Geller is the only cookbook author who wants to get you out of the kitchen – not because she doesn’t love food – but because she has tons to do. As “The Bride Who Knew Nothing” Jamie found her niche as everybody’s favorite cook next-door. Specializing in scrumptious meals that are a snap to prepare, she authored the Quick & Kosher Cookbook series and is co- founder of the Kosher Media Network, which recently launched the Joy of Kosher with Jamie Geller magazine and companion website JoyofKosher.com, a social network for foodies. Jamie hosts the popular Quick & Kosher cooking show online at youtube.com/joyofkosher and on-air on JLTV. Jamie and her “hubby” live in Monsey, NY. Their five children give her plenty of reasons to get out of the kitchen — fast.
This recipe was a huge hit in my house the other night– super easy to make, assemble; and all 3 kids loved it (no small miracle!). this meal will definitely be one of our “regulars”…
I am SO happy Kovy and everyone loved this recipe
YAY! Can you please comment on the cooking with kids post http://blog.kosher.com/2011/01/26/fun-ethnic-recipes-to-make-with-your-kids/comment-page-1/#comment-3367 and let the world know how great Kovy is in the kitchen? xoxo
Where do I get shwarma seaoning? Is there a substitute for it?
Pereg makes a shawarma seasoning/spice as do some other companies. In addition some butchers already season cutlets or chicken fingers with shawarma seasoning. But if you can’t find it you can make your own: 1T each coriander, cumin, cardamom, chili powder, steak seasoning plus 1t (smoked) paprika — should do the trick.
I got some wonderful Schwarma seasoning at Jo El’s Specialty Foods in St. Petersburg, FL. The label was entirely in Hebrew so I knew what it was but never really knew how much to use. Now I know….
Thanks for the recipe – I absolutely love schwarma!
One more comment – Schwarma is great with Tzatziki – of course I add Tzatziki to most of my pita sandwiches…..
Do you make a parve Tzatziki? I have made one before with parve sour cream, I love it also. That reminds me I have to make some now…
This recipe is simple and delicious. We kicked it up a bit by using jalapeno hummus. Yummy!
