Servings

1

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp. orange juice
  • 1/3 cup Water
  • 1 Large egg
  • 2 tbsp. margarine, cut up
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 cups bread flour
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 11/2 tsp. Active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp. orange zest
  • 1/3 cup dates, chopped
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1 tbsp. water

Directions

Preparation

1 In 2 cup measuring cup, combine water with yeast and sugar. Allow to sit 5 minutes.
2 In large bowl combine flour and salt. Add egg, margarine and orange juice to the yeast mixture.
3 Pour liquid into dry ingredients and mix, adding flour if necessary. Knead dough for a few minutes. Add orange peel and dates and continue to knead until incorprated.
4 Place dough in oiled and floured ziplock bag and allow to rise in a warm place (I put it in the microwave) for about 1 1/2 hours.
5 Punch dough down, then shape as desired and place on greased baking sheet. Allow to rise 45minutes to 1 hour.
6 Preheat oven to 375. Lightly beat egg yolk and water. Brush over loaf. Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until a deep golden brown and hollow sound when tapped.
7 If it is browning too quickly cover with foil. Remove from oven and allow to cool.
