Recipe

Cinnamon Sugar Challah

On Rosh Hashana we eat sweet foods and round challot. What could be better than combining these traditions into sweet, doughy, fresh challah sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar?

Times

  • Prep Time : 30 min
  • Cook Time : 30 min
  • Ready Time : 60 min

Servings

Ingredients

  • 1 batch challah dough, prepared according to recipe directions
  • cinnamon/sugar
  • raisins (optional)
  • 1 beaten egg

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Once your dough is prepared and has risen, cut it into equal pieces. (Each recipe will determine how many loaves it will yield.) Roll each piece into a long snakelike strand. Sprinkle each strand with cinnamon/sugar. If using raisins, press them in along the strand. Roll up by coiling the strip around itself. Place on parchment-lined or lightly greased baking sheet. Brush with beaten egg. Sprinkle with more cinnamon/sugar. Bake for 30 minutes or until golden and challah sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.

One Response to Cinnamon Sugar Challah

  1. I made this for Rosh Hashanah and it was the best, I wouldn’t want it all the time, but it is a fun sweet change that is easy to do to only one loaf.
