  • Hi Jamie. Just came back from the BAYT event tonight (Thornhill, ONtario). I thought you were VERY entertaining! I even snuck a few samples for my husband to try of the bark and chocolate cake! Your story was moving...i got a little teary eyed over the aliyah video. Glad you enjoyed your visit to our community but we all enjoyed having you be there! My only regret is that I didn't pick up a book afterwards...My friends and I will probably do a pot luck with some of your recipes! Kol Hakavod! Pam from the great white north!

  • Jamie-I have been using whole wheat flour exclusively for several years - for health reasons. But whenever I bake I can;t seem to get rid of this underlying flavor from the WW flour. I have thought of using honey but not sure. I am getting ready to bake cookies with my son for his class and am hoping for a solution first!! Any thoughts please? Todah rabbah!

  • Jamie, Looking at your new book, the Garlic Honey Brisket recipe, which calls for 1 cup of Honey. Can I use Date Honey? Can Date Honey always be used instead of Bee Honey? I know it will change the flavor (duh), but is there any reason why not? Does one cook better than the other (like vegetable oil versus olive oil)? thanks.

  • HI Jamie: I tried writing here and wrote a huge note, did the text thing on the bottom, and somehow my post disappeared, oh I just realized I had used brackets and a P to separate paragraphs so perhaps that was not allowed. I love watching your show on JLTV but have to tell you that SPLENDA IS TERRIBLE FOR YOU AND ANYBODY. Please google SPLENDA and read for yourself. I happen to love Diet Coke and now I have had to give it up after reading about this product Splenda. It's like drinking bleach. I know you love your friends and family and so I wanted to share this info for you. All those people pushed Splenda for years, and it's killing all of us. Truvia and I think Stevia are the only ones to use....thanks for letting me post. Have a good one!! Just a Florida Mom...

When you and the family moved to Israel did you give up your American citizenship? I love Texas, but perfectly understand how a Jewish family would want to move to Israel.   • Dear Mrs. Geller, It is wonderful that you are moving here in August! I'm originally from NYC and have been living here since 1971 - and wake up every morning thanking G-d that I came on aliyah. Life here is VERY different - and as a cook, you will find that many, many products you are used to using, simply do not exist here, but we manage with substitutes as far as possible, and leave out what we can't find. Congratulations again on your move!

  • Hi Simcha - you can put your shredded potatoes in water and to keep them from browning and then give them a good!!! squeeze before using. But I prefer to work really quickly - check out this video for my tips - for best potato kugel results: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYgYymFJ7fo Once the kugel is cooked lasts in the fridge for a good few days. just rewarm before serving.

  • Hi Jamie,i'm a HUGE fan of your show. I have a question though : How do you make kugel in advance without the potatoes getting brown once they're shredded? My mom and I want to make potato carrot kugel, but need to make it ahead of time. Any ideas?

  • Hi Mattie - Joy is the brand I use for my blue colored (and plain) cake cones. http://www.joycone.com/ You will most likely find the fun colored cones in the mainstream supermarket chains not the kosher ones -- I don't find that the kosher supermarkets carry the colorful selection.
