When I write about Gold’s I get uber nostalgic.  Gold’s Duck Sauce was perhaps my first kitchen lifesaver.  My first proof (to no one other than myself) that YES, I got this!  My first triumph with Hubby back seat cooking right by my side.

About a week into my marriage, as a recovering vegetarian, I found myself staring at this raw chicken, wondering if there is a way to cook it without touching it. Hubby came to my rescue sharing his all-time favorite chicken recipe.  I called it bachelor food until I realized this “recipe” graced many a Shabbos table all over the world.

The Best Gold’s BBQ Sauce and Giveaway

About 6 years ago, the summer before the release of my first book, I drove to the Gold’s factory and warehouse out on Long Island for the first of many visits.  I was going to meet Steven Gold, a kind man fiercely dedicated to his craft, to discuss a series of cooking videos I was commissioned to do for the OU featuring his products.

About 9 years ago I was the Bride Who Knew Nothing, a newlywed without a clue in the kitchen. Yeah, yeah I know you read that book and know that story but keep reading, this is a new one. Even way back then, when it came to entertaining there was one rule that I lived by and still live by to this day: the 3 Ps.

Cook and food writer, Ruth Joseph, and former food editor of the Jewish Chronicle, Simon Round came together to bring us a compendium of Jewish recipes in the new cookbook, Traditional Jewish Cooking.  This book takes you on a culinary journey, from the warm climates of Africa and the Middle East to the cooler temperatures of Europe and North America.  This book covers all the bases with Ashkenazi and Sephardi classics you will definitely want to add to your repertoire.  Don’t miss the savory vegetable noodle kugel, just in time for Shavuot.

What motivated you to write this book?

Judita Wignall’s latest cookbook is Raw & Simple.  With a goal of providing easy and tasty recipes that feed the body and spirit without hours of prep, Raw & Simple is a wonderful introduction to the world of raw vegan food.  Rarely does a cookbook come out that really changes the way I think or the way I cook.  Sure, I might learn some new recipes and be introduced to new flavors, but Raw & Simple is a whole new way of cooking or really not cooking and it is better and easier than I thought.

Making Horseradish – A Visit to Gold’s...

The food world is finally catching on to what Steve Gold has been saying for years. Horseradish is a superfood. In addition to its incredible earthy and sweet flavor, horseradish is full of health benefits ranging from cancer prevention (horseradish has ten times more cancer-fighting compounds than broccoli!), to respiratory and headache relief. Horseradish has been used for medicinal purposes for years, yet the research on horseradish has become more established and well-known in recent years, while the Gold family has been touting the benefits of horseradish since 1932. Horseradish is creeping up in produce sections throughout the USA, as the demand for horseradish is increasing and will continue to increase in the coming years.

KitchenAid Hand Blender Review and Giveaway

As we approach the Passover holiday and plan our seder menu, it’s a good idea to take an inventory of your kitchen equipment.  Do you have everything you need for Passover?  If you don’t have a hand blender, you’re probably working too hard.  I recently tested the KitchenAid 5-Speed Hand Blender and this dynamo is like having my very own sous chef in a box.

The powerful 5-speed motor and 8 inch removable blending arm provide exceptional control to mix all your ingredients with ease.  You can blend, puree, chop, shred, mince, froth/mix, and whisk/emulsify and aerate.  From breakfast smoothies, chopped nuts for charoset, dicing bitter herbs for maror, shredding vegetables for salad and stir fry, or whisking egg whites for meringues or macaroons  – you can do everything you used to do by hand in a fraction of the time with the KitchenAid blender.  So instead of buying a food processor, a blender and a mixer you can do it all with just this hand blender.

Passover Holiday Memories *Giveaway*

Memories can be quite powerful, food memories all the more so. When I use a spice my grandfather often used, or smell a cake like one my grandmother used to bake, I’m there in an instant, right in their kitchen. When Pesach comes, I close my eyes and I can see my grandfather eating matzah with a schmear of whipped cream cheese, a hot mug of sweet creamy coffee beside him.

That is Passover to me:  exactly that vision, that aroma, that taste.
