Even though we had an extra month of Adar this year I still feel like all of a sudden Purim is creeping up on me.  I have been undecided about my plan for Mishloach Manot this year when I got a call from Oh! Nuts.  I knew all about Oh! Nuts, I love the gift baskets they sell, but I usually prepare my own baskets and I didn’t realize the extent of what they sold.  Turns out they are are a mecca of supplies to help make any food gift basket, especially though for Purim.  They have homemade hamantashen, tons of chocolate specialties and tons of candy if every different color.

For the perfect Purim gift basket theme, consider color to express your creativity! Choose your favorite color or mix it up for a variation on a theme (Red and White for Where’s Waldo? Rainbow for Wizard of Oz, Blue and White for Israel). Our friends at Oh! Nuts make it easy with a section of their website devoted to browsing candy by color.   Click for more ideas.

This is an example of some of the candies they sell in pink, you can buy a pink candy sampler or buy each one in bulk.

Another idea is to place these flavored Jordan almonds on a plate like they are pebbles and top with their mini hamantashen.  The mini hamantashen are baked on premises and drizzled with chocolate.  They also sell chocolate dipped hamantashen with colored sugar as you can see in the main image so you can match your theme.

If you run out of time to make your own, choose from a wide variety of Mishloach Manot, many with free shipping and all with delicious hamantashen.  This Picnic Box basket goes with a less traditional more modern approach.  But, you can stick with tradition and order the gold box filled with hamantashen, grape juice, chocolate, and fruit candy for all your friends and family in bulk and get it for under $13 including shipping.

This Mishloach Manot basket comes with this exquisite washing cup and tasty gourmet treats and right now, you have the chance to win this basket!

Oh Nuts is offering 5% off all your Mishloach Manot needs with coupon code: JOKP.

I love brights and jewel tones. I don’t remember doing a themed shalach manot; my mo is to make a package particular to each recipient. Empty nesters, for example, will receive home-baked challah and a nice bottle of wine, while a family with many young children get a basket of goodies with one of each treat for each child.

  108. My favorite color is yellow. I have never though of doing a color themed basket, but what a great idea.

  109. My favorite color is yellow: Lemony, sunny, happy, bright. And hubby feels very strongly about purple. Hence: iris flowers at our wedding. A colored basket theme is cute. Where I’m from, however, you take a brown paper lunch bag, make designs on it with crayon, throw in an apple or orange and a can of pop, maybe a handful of candy, too, and that’s your shalach manos!

  110. avatar says: c

Light blue is my favorite. I’ve done black and white and there are so many coordinating ideas to use to make it into a beautiful mm.

  111. avatar says: rebecs25

    • I love it, makes me think of my daughter’s sheer delight last week with a rainbow crayon her friend brought to school, her face lit up when she talked about it, maybe you should include one.

  112. My favorite color(s) are pink and purple. I have never done a color themed shaloch manot baskets, but I have done pink gift baskets for breast cancer fundraisers.

  113. avatar says: frippie

My favorite color is purple. No, I’ve never done a color-themed mishloach manos for Purim. In fact, I’ve never done a theme at all! On principle, my husband and I have chosen to keep it simple and not get caught up in the craziness of spending and preparing too much for mishloach manos. We make a couple very nice ones to send and are each yotzei the mitzvah. Then, as the chachamim suggest, we have more to give for metanos l’evyonim. We’d rather give to those who are in need, then try to “out do” the neighbors with mishloach manos. No judgement, just a thought to ponder.

    • I like this idea Frippie, what I actually like best about a color theme is that it can really be done affordably. I also often do the Mishloach Manot cards through a charity and send to friends near and far and then just make a few.

  114. My favorite color is blue and I haven’t done my own basket but I have bought them :)

  115. avatar says: Chana

Love the creativity. Can’t believe one person can think of so many great ideas!

  117. avatar says: susan

Love the Purim gift basket idea!

  118. avatar says: leah sand

i am very dissappointed that you don’t check the side-effects of the ingredients you suggest we should use. in a world where we are exposed to so much that is bad for us, in a world where we have so many friends who are getting sicker, we have to be very sensitive in what we put into our bodies, especially what we give to our friends. THIS is not kosher what you are suggesting.

  119. I love blue never done a color themed basket before but what an awesome idea.

  120. avatar says: DeeAnn

I love any shade of purple. I’ve never done a basket by color.

  121. avatar says: Miki

I love midnight blue. I’ve made themed cookie “baskets” for friends and family at Chanukah but for Purim I usually give a pretty plastic plate filled with Purim treats. Of course the recipient keeps the plate .

  122. My favorite color is lavendar. And I once had a chocolate themed basket (so everything was brown)!

  123. I love silver, maroon/burgundy, and shades of green! I’m not very clever/creative, so I haven’t made a color-themed basket before (I’ll save that for the professionals ;)
    Thanks for the giveaway.
