Condiments For The Fish Course *Giveaway*

“Would you like some gefilte with your condiments?” Hubby always asks me.

Quite like I do with a hot dog – I smother the poor thing with this and that until one wonders if I actually even like it. I do.  But I like it more with horseradish.  And even more with mayo.  And some more with hummus, Turkish salad, marinara and wasabi sauce.  Not all together.  The mayo and horseradish (can) go together, the hummus and Turkish salad work well in tandem, the marinara flies solo, as does the wasabi.

Wasabi sauce, although from a different culture and  different cuisine, unlike most of my other selects, actually is a fish condiment.  So now that Gold’s Wasabi Sauce is a staple in my fridge for both my gefilte and my sushi I’ve had to think up a few more fishy things to do with it….

    We’re pretty plebeian in our choices but at least we have a bunch! Our fish course usually incorporates homemade dill sauce, arbis* (*if they haven’t burnt, that is), a leafy salad, either carrot or coleslaw (Caesar style or vinaigrette), and maybe roasted garlic spread (again, if it hasn’t burnt… sense a pattern here?) Guacamole is a kid and hubby fave too. Hubby dusts his whole tower of fish ‘n’ condiments with challah crumbs. Sometimes we’ll pull out homemade tahini too – I’ve made the typical olive, tomato, matbucha dips on occasion but always end up staring at the leftovers sadly Monday morning.

  7. I add wasabi powder to the broth while it’s simmering and when it turns to gel, adds a really nice little kick!

  11. I am not wild about gefilte fish in general, but quite a few years ago a friend showed me how to add garlic, onion, colored peppers and tomato sauce and make a wonderful dish. Those are my ‘unusual’ additions.

  12. Everything’s (especially gefilte fish) is better with seafood sause!

  13. Sriracha!! It adds a fabulous kick by itself to gefilte fish, or sriracha spiked ketchup is also amazing.

    Although if I won I would try my fish with all the new ideas!

    When I was a kid we didn’t eat horseradish/chrain from Rosh Hashana thru Succot (sweet new year), so my Dad would use good old fashioned mustard. Still like it on occasion.

    I’m a traditionalist – only horseradish on top (but lettuce HAS to be underneath!).

    The Gefilte fish is only an excuse to have Gold’s Horseradish.

  20. we’re pretty traditional and can’t get enough beet-horseradish when the gefilte fish arrives on the table…in fact, one of my boys skips the fish entirely and eats the horseradish spread out on a piece of challah ;)

    I use the Gold’s horseradish sauce. It’s got more of a kick than the basic horseradish.

    prefer the white Gold’s horseradish above all else…but have tried the guacamole route

    Of course always red horseradish, with a little sugar added to take the heat away. Yummy!
