Joy of Israel Premiere – Cooking with Cowboys

WATCH NOW: With gratitude to Hashem and to my partners 12 Tribe Films and Nefesh B’Nefesh I present to you the premiere episode of Joy of Israel with Jamie Geller, the highly anticipated food and travel series and sequel to the Joy of Aliyah documentary. Because you asked for it and because we heard you, this first episode will show you a slice of every day life, a part of Israel that doesn’t get much press and a dish that’s a far cry from falafel and hummus… Poyke! (Although hubby calls it Hokee Pokee!) “What is Poyke?” you ask, just watch and learn. And by the way, for the record my kids were NOT unbuckled and standing while I was driving, I was parked at the time, that I would NEVER allow :-) .

Join me and my family the first Tuesday of every month as our aliyah adventure continues. The Joy of Israel with Jamie Geller is my new food and travel show and will follow our adventures as new Olim. Together with you, we will explore the wonderful land of Israel, the place we now call home.

  9. Looked like so much fun! We call that Poytjie in South Africa. Pronounced Poykey Poy (as in boy) and tjie (as in key). Then while eating, everybody sits and discusses the different ingredients they use!! Lamb is also great with a hint of curry powder.

What a big Mitzvah you have. Watching this video, I am reminded how much Hakaras HaTov that I have to Hashem that I live in Israel almost 37 years. I remember taking an Egged tour of the Golan almost 40 years ago and seeing that same view across the border.
May you and your family have many happy and healthy years in Eretz Yisroel.

  17. Great first video. We live in Dallas,Texas.Hope to someday visit your beautiful country.Especially the cowboy connection to Texas.

    • Yes totally! Who knew Israeli Cowboys look the same as Texas ones?!?! I said to my husband across the world on another ranch there is some cowboy speaking a different language that wears the same hat, belt, boots – it’s incredible how we are more alike than we are different.

    Shalom Jamie,

I can’t tell you how much your Aliyah journey has impacted me and my family. G-d willing we are planning to make Aliyah to Modiin sometime next year. I have smiled and cried through all of your Joy of Aliyah videos and been so deeply inspired and touched by the amazing adventure you and your family have made in going home to the Land. I pray someday to meet you when I get to Israel (we’ll be practically neighbors). :)

Oh and I loved this video! I live in TX (Austin, so we don’t have much in the cowboy dept) but I really enjoyed learning that there are Israeli cowboys. Nice to know I’ll still be able to find a piece of Texas when I get to Israel.

p.s. My Mother took your amazing brownie recipe and made it gluten free (so delicious!). If you’d like her version let me know where to e-mail it and I’ll send it to you. It’s kosher l’Pesach!

Baruch HaShem for you & your family. You have no idea what a gift you have been to so many people’s lives. You’ve been part of our kitchen’s, part of our hearts and now part of hope in making Aliyah.
