Poultry is defined as domestic fowl such as Turkey, Chicken, Duck and Geese that are raised for their eggs or for their meat. From the Old French word  pouletrie, from pouletier - poultry-dealer!

Five Fun Facts:

  1. There are more chickens living on earth than people.
  2. A hen can lay about 300 eggs each year.
  3. So that the yoke does not stick to the egg shell, a mother hen turns the egg about 50 times each day.
  4. Chickens can run at a speed of 9 mph.
  5. If you suffer from Alektorophobia, you have a fear of chickens.

Five Poultry Recipes:

  1. Maple-Mustard Baked Chicken- Whether served cold for a picnic, or hot on the table at home, this crunchy Maple-Mustard Baked Chicken will become an instant crowd pleaser. Enjoy this crunchy chicken at home for a family supper or take it along on a picnic to eat cold – no forks and knives required! For best flavor, try using grade B maple syrup.
  2. Turkey Sausage with Fennel Sauerkraut & Potatoes- Inspired by the Alsatian classic choucroute garni, this comforting, one-pot meal takes a shortcut with bagged shredded cabbage.
  3. Grilled Chicken & Polenta with Nectarine-Blackberry Salsa - Grilled summer fruit melts in to a tangy sweet salsa in this engaging chicken dish. Grilled nectarines and fresh blackberries turn into a summery salsa to top cumin-rubbed chicken and polenta in a dish that’s special enough for weeknight entertaining. Make it a meal: Serve with a spinach salad and a crisp glass of rosé.
  4. Herb Roasted Turkey- Sumptuous, mouthwatering herb-infused turkey is the star at Thanksgiving but this affordable main course is great year-round.
  5. Roast Chicken with Chestnuts and Orange Yam Mash  - Roast chicken is definitely one of life’s simple pleasures. This beautiful meal is made complete with the wonderful flavors of chestnuts and fennel and served with a side of slightly sweet yams.
