Not sure if this happens only in my house, but Hubby really wants certain things exactly the way he grew up with them. His mother always served dinner rolls with Thanksgiving dinner. I want biscuits.

In marriage, compromise is everything. I will buy him his dinner rolls, since that’s what his mom did anyway, and I’ll bake my biscuits. This year, I’ll add chives to the biscuits. Hubby hates chives. But I can go wild: he’s not eating them anyway. Biscuits with chives for me, dinner rolls for Hubby and the kids. (Ever notice that baked goods with green things are more suited to the adult palate?) I know my mom-in-law will try them and she will love them because that’s how good a mom-in-law she is. As far as she’s concerned, everything I make is delicious, and it doesn’t matter that I’ve deviated from her tradition. Now if I could only get Hubby on board…

  8. avatar says: kim

I won’t make them for Thanksgiving, but these sound tasty and like something I’ll make to go with one of my wintertime soups.

  9. I have made homemade biscuits but most of the time I get the store bought ones.

  10. avatar says: sherdini

  11. avatar says: markathy

We love biscuits here especially warm with a little maple syrup~

  12. I buy store brought dinner rolls. The chive biscuits sound delicious!

  13. Wow those look Devine!!!

  14. avatar says: eyewonit

I serve store bought dinner rolls ~ who has time to bake
    on Thanksgiving?

  15. avatar says: Ohanna

I serve challah rolls – homemade and corn bread muffins (Gluten Free) You biscuits look yummy….I think I may try to make some Gluten Free biscuits with chives to jazz them up as well this year! Thanks for the suggestion.

  16. avatar says: tstueve

I’ve never made homemade biscuits. I usually just buy rolls. They look good!

  17. I usually buy biscuit dough and bake it at home or crescent roll dough and bake that. We love fresh biscuits so I figure this is a good compromise. :)

  18. avatar says: shayndya

Bake my own baking powder biscuits or my own homemade bread or rolls.

  19. avatar says: pbkup

    I use bought buscuits

  20. avatar says: schoenbc1

I love biscuits, but I’m afraid I’d eat everyone of these – no sharing. (And thanks for the cranberry relish recipe – finally a change from the staid and usual!)

  21. Biscuits are great! Never thought I could make them pareve. Keep these great recipes coming. Love them! Yasha Koach

  22. avatar says: Schmidty

Storebought for me, Jamie, but these chive biscuits sound wonderful.

  23. We are going to use garlic toast this year but I love a nice biscuit definitely going to try these

  24. We do yeast rolls on Thanksgiving and biscuits for Christmas

  25. avatar says: llennhoff

Store bought for us. When we had friends who used to travel to Canada, we would ask them to bring us back kosher certified crescent rolls. Why doesn’t anyone in the US make them?

  26. We’ve only done ready made, but for Thanksgiving there’s so much food we haven’t made them in so long.

  27. We always have store bought rolls for Thanksgiving.

  28. avatar says: aaronr

those look incredible. now I just need a kosher sausage gravy recipe to go with them.

  29. avatar says: kao1114

We have store bought rolls for Thanksgiving to attempt to minimize the chaos! :) Thank you!

  30. avatar says: Erin Cox

Growing up it was always store-bought rolls. I’m hosting Thankgiving with a few guests for the first time, so I’m definitely going all out and making my own. My husband and I were just trying to think of what bread to serve, I suggested rosemary mini challah rolls, he is on the fence. I’ll offer these as a suggestion tonight and see what he thinks! Thanks for another chance!

  31. I buy store bought but would love to have the time to make them.
    anissacoupons(at)hotmail(dot)com

  32. I bake my own biscuits, but not for Thanksgiving. But Rod would love chive biscuits so maybe I’ll surprise him this Thanksgiving.

  33. Usually storebought, but I have experimented.

  34. avatar says: Snerd2123

storebought, just not enough time since work late the night before–they are great as a leftover for breakfast with turkey, gravy, stuffing and cranberry sauce on a mini biscuit sandwich

  35. I’ve never done rolls or biscuits with Thanksgiving. Plenty of good side dishes without them.

  36. avatar says: fluggy

I serve store bought dinner rolls. Your biscuits sound wonderful!

  37. avatar says: strandjss

Never store-bought. Fresh, homemade biscuits are the best. I would never buy pre-made biscuits.

  38. Never got store bought. I’ve made them from Bisquick and from a homemade Bisquick-type recipe

  39. We have store bought dinner rolls but with so much else no one really eats them. Maybe they would if I made your biscuits!

  40. avatar says: Susieq613

Thanks, it’s really difficult to find a good pareve biscuit recipe.

  41. avatar says: Jill Lear

I have to confess, I just heat up store bought rolls.

  42. avatar says: peg42

    I usually serve store bought.
    Thanks so much.
    rickpeggysmith(at)aol(dot)com

  43. avatar says: Gwenelle

I’m a scratch biscuit baker from way back. Also a chive lover (though I recently had to replant my pot of chives on the back patio when thrips killed off my established clump, and they haven’t come back enough to start harvesting yet). Just last week I got a bread machine, and I plan to try using the dough cycle to help me make my own dinner rolls (and sandwich rolls, and bagels, and…).

  44. I bake my own biscuits.

  45. I bake my own biscuits!!!

  46. avatar says: ohyoucook

I usually make my own rolls, using my challah recipe.

  47. avatar says: pancak

Since the oven is entirely taken over by the turkey, I have no room or time for scratch biscuits. Store-bought it is!

  48. Love chives – I think I’d double the amount in the recipe!

  49. avatar says: js22

I prefer to bake my own! But in a pinch, I’d get store-bought!
    Thanks for the giveaway!

  50. We are a crescent roll family.

  51. avatar says: tmim222

I bake my own. Your chive biscuits sound yummy!

  52. I would totally make these but change it up a bit healthier by using white whole wheat flour and trans-fat free margarine.

  53. We serve store bought, theres just to many mouths to feed.

  54. I usually buy Pillsbury Grands biscuits, but you’ve inspired me to try and whip up my own!

  55. avatar says: zahavaf

I make dinner rolls out of challah dough (thanksgiving is on Thursday, which is challah-baking day in my house!).

  56. avatar says: kath999

I bake my your own biscuits, using gluten-free flours

  57. avatar says: barbarawr

Neither – I use my breadmaker and either make some kind of interesting bread or, if the oven isn’t too full, I’ll make yeast rolls.

  58. avatar says: Ma Motts

bake my own, easy and yummy

  59. We spend all our time baking desserts and the sides (and turkey itself of course) so for the biscuits, we use pillsbury. They’re good enough, but most importantly they’re very fast prep and cook.

  60. avatar says: dahbou

My mom usually buys dinner rolls and bakes them at home. Those chive biscuits look might good, though.

  61. Believe it or not we have never been a roll family. Sometimes we actually have challah -but I have a new bread/roll recipe that I will try — but I might have to try biscuits instead.

  62. avatar says: DebsHere

We buy rolls as no matter what recipe I use~they never turn out.

  63. avatar says: Blss52

dinner rolls.but down south biscuts are prefered.

  64. avatar says: leta18

Make my own dinner “onion” rolls from scratch!! YUMMY!!!

  65. I bake my own biscuits, thanks!

  66. We bake our own biscuits

  67. avatar says: Chayasora

I make my own from scratch – and adding chives to biscuits sounds great!

  68. avatar says: Lillian

My family likes rolls but they are angel biscuits, a cross between yeast-raised rolls and baking powder biscuits.

  69. avatar says: DnM1217

I love the fluffy roll recipes that I see in all of the Thanksgiving recipe books. Last year I baked mine from scratch. To make them slightly sweet and festive I added a handful of crasins to the mix. They baked up beautifully!

  70. I have read how some would change the recipe to make it healthier but it is Thanksgiving and i like the fat and extras so why not just keep it the same way. It is not like we eat this way all year around. Enjoy your food and cooking it too…leave the fat in

  71. avatar says: KAWAII

I rarely bake my own but these chives ones sound pretty tasty.

  72. avatar says: Devo20

    Cannot wait to try these

  73. Never made either for Thanksgiving, but I have a recipe for onion rolls that I was planning to make. After seeing this recipe, though, I’m not sure which I’ll end up making!

  74. I keep coming back looking at these yummy biscuits…can’t wait to try them!

  75. i usually buy store bought rolls or the pillsbury crescent rolls

  76. I do bake my own biscuits but I am looking forward to trying yours. I met you at our Sisterhood program and bought 2 cookbooks one for myself and one for a new bride. She loves it and so do I

  77. wish I could say i make my own, but i generally use the store bought rolls…

  78. I hate to admit it, but we usually have the brown and serve type rolls from the bread aisle. These biscuits look awesome though.

  79. I like to make homemade biscuits sometimes. Often during the holidays it is just the last item priority wise. I will buy some rolls or good french bread then. I want to try your Chive biscuits they sound great. I love chives.

  80. avatar says: sdg729

I love chives! I love to cook with them and I love to grow them. Perfect “gardening” in an apartment ;)

  81. avatar says: ban7579

I make Cottage Cheese rolls from scratch. Lots of them left overs are a must…

  82. Now that i’m in the south, I do biscuits, but the lazy way — with Bisquick, which makes them dairy and not to be served with…ummm…Empire turkey. So, for meat, I don’t usually do rolls or biscuits :(

  83. avatar says: fbogus

I always *swear* I’m going to bake bread from scratch and always run out of time. Besides, with all the potatoes and pies, and other starches, do we really need bread anyhow (despite how good it tastes)?
Now the day after Thanksgiving is another story. Of course you need a good sourdough to make Leftovers Sandwiches.

  84. We make “Turkey Bread”…We actually shape bread dough into a turkey! Very fun and I always get a leg… :)

  85. avatar says: julis55

I bake my your own biscuits

  86. avatar says: tes283

Being Gluten-free I buy rolls and other “bread” items. I am very glad that the Turkey is Gluten-free . I went to Empire site and looked it up. Thank you.

    tes 1283 yahoo

  87. im not in charge of the bread, my mom dose that and she makes her bread

  88. avatar says: darcybel

I usually make my own but not on Thanksgiving–I’ve got too many other things fighting for room in the oven!

  89. I never hosted my own thanksgiving, but these biscuits look amazing!

  90. avatar says: pdale1000

I’m not handy enough to make biscuits or anything but we prefer the dinner rolls that you simply heat up.

  91. avatar says: Atreau

I bake mine using my Grandma’s recipe!

  92. avatar says: lisalmg

We don’t eat biscuits at Thanksgiving but I do bake homemade potato dinner rolls.

  93. avatar says: gkran

HOMEMADE biscuits (and sometimes homemade dinner rolls – our daughter has found a new bread-making passion, so can we all say “blessed”?!) Your chive biscuits are calling my name – this is definitely on my make list. Thank you for the recipe!
