Frozen Cocktail Recipes That Are Good For You
Is there anything better than a frozen drink on a hot sunny day while lounging at the pool? It just screams: SUMMER! But did you ever read the label on some of those drink mixes (high fructose corn syrup, yellow 5, blue 1, etc.) Yuck! I think I found my dietitian mission: to create a healthy, great tasting frozen cocktail without all the unnecessary artificial colors, flavors and sugar. It’s a tough job but someone has to do it…
Summertime is the perfect time to enjoy blueberries, strawberries, peaches and mangos, but sometimes you just can’t finish what you bought at the store or farmer’s market. For years, I’ve been freezing my leftover fresh fruit to use in yogurt smoothies, but until recently, I never tried using frozen fruit in my cocktails.
To freeze your own fruit, make sure to wash thoroughly and then pat dry the excess water with a paper towel. If it has a peel like peaches, remove the skin and slice into wedges. Lay on a flat surface for about an hour then put into a tightly sealed Ziploc bag and save in your freezer until you are ready to use.
When my favorite fresh fruit is out of stock or out of season, I run over to the frozen food aisle. Frozen fruit is packed at the peak of freshness and retains more nutrients than many of those fruits sitting around the fresh fruit aisle.
Who knew a Strawberry Daiquiri can be (a little) good for you?
Whether you start fresh or frozen, your favorite drink is never more than a blender away. In moderation, alcohol can lower your risk of heart disease and diabetes and many of your favorite fruits like kiwi, blueberry, raspberry and strawberry are rich in antioxidants and other important nutrients.
The best part of a frozen cocktail is they take longer to drink and provide natural fiber from the fruit that will fill you up and keep you from overeating and over drinking your calories. So reach out and grab that bottle of rum gathering dust in your liquor cabinet and start trying some of these delicious fresh fruit cocktail recipes.

We are a non alcoholic household but we do love a good smoothie cocktail. Best of all is use a base of frozen banana chunks. When blended give it a smooth creamy texture.

As a foodhistorian, I am certain that chokecherries were often used to make syrups for ices during the mid to late 1800′s. Simply cook berries to a pulp, strain, add 1 cup sugar per cup of juice, cook until thickened. The syrup is then added to crushed ice- I add a little fruit liquor ( any kind on hand) and enjoy my chokecherry cocktail.
I love mojitos! Refreshing on a hot day.
I like frozen limeade.
Thanks for the contest.
Mmmm! Wow I do love a frozen coctail especially on those hot Summer days! A fruity one is especially refreshing! I have a few favorites but I am going to go with a Peachy Mango frozen Margarita! It is great with a couple blueberries thrown in too! A Zesty Lime-Apricot can really hit the spot too, and of course a creamy Banana Daquri is hard to say no to. Pina Coladas always bring me back to Carribean vacations and lying on a beach or a boat!

My favorite frozen drink is a frozen iced coffee. Just make your regular iced coffee drink & add 2 to 3 shots of Bailey’s Irish Creme..depending on how strong you want it. Then just add your ice & blend. You can even add sweetened condensed milk to thicken the drink.

A peach schnapps smoothie:

packets of sweetener to taste (2-4)

Recipe follows:
1 teaspoon coarse salt
4 ounces Tequilla
2 ounces Triple Sec
2 ounces freshly-squeezed lime juice
2 ounces blue Curacaco
2 teaspoons superfine sugar
2 (1/4-inch) slices star fruit for garnish (optional)
1 lime, cut into wedges
Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice.
Place Tequilla, Triple Sec, lime juice, blue Curacaco, and sugar in the shaker; shake hard for 30 seconds.
Serve in Margarita Glasses with coarse salt or Margarita Salt on the rims of the glasses. Strain the Blue Margarita into the glasses. Garnish each with a slice of star fruit or a lime wedge.
NOTE: To create a salt-rimmed glass, take a lemon or lime wedge and rub the drinking surface of the glass so it is barely moist. Dip the edge of the glass into coarse or Kosher salt.
