On April 28, Meadow Park Rehabilitation & Health Care Center and the Chai Traditions Program presented cooking sensation Jamie Geller to perform a cooking demonstration at their facility in Fresh Meadows, Queens. Members of the community, facility residents, and staff were wowed by Jamie Geller’s sophisticated, yet ironically simple ways to prepare meals. She showed six of her world-famous recipes which included mango-strawberry soup, Mexican quesadillas, and scrumptious cheesecake.

A community member, Ilana T., said, “The show was superb and the staff was extremely accommodating to all the guests; and the proceeds going to Tomchei Shabbos of Queens made it all that much more worth it.” Another community member, Sara N., said, “This was such a fun night out. Jamie [Geller] was so dynamic and articulate. I have her cookbook and now I will use it even more than I did before.” One of Meadow Park’s residents, Jay E., said, “I had a really wonderful time; she puts on a great show and makes truly great food.”

A fun and educational time was surely had by all. The Meadow Park staff helped the show along, as did some members of the interactive audience. Mindy Daum, MSRD, facility dietician, was the ideal assistant, helping Jamie chop, scoop, and prepare. Akiva Goldstein, DTR, the organizer of the event and reservation liaison, introduced Jamie as well as a representative from Kosher.com, a sponsor of the show. The maintenance/building services department set up the room to perfection, making every seat the best seat in the house. The rest of the staff present helped serve the foods to the guests. It was a great event at a beautiful facility where everyone left feeling fulfilled and satisfied.

Meadow Park Rehabilitation & Health Care Center is a 143-bed skilled nursing facility located in the heart of Fresh Meadows at 78-10 164th Street. For more information on the facility or for future Chai Traditions events, please call 718-591-8300.
